Job Introduction

We have a newly created opportunity for an Estates, Facilities Manager (Health & Safety), to lead our maintenance team and oversee health and safety compliance in relation to our services, facilities, and the welfare of our employees.

A Wilderness Way have over 44 children’s residential care homes within Cumbria and the Northeast. We offer short-term crisis intervention for children who have suffered adverse childhood trauma. Our teams are dedicated and professional, working together to transform the lives of the children we look after.

Your role and responsibilities as Estates, Facilities Manager

  • Based at our Head Office in Bowscar, Penrith, the role offers you a fantastic opportunity to contribute your skills and experience within construction, trades, facilities management, and health and safety, in a Company that has real meaning and purpose.
  • Supported by the Head of Estates and Facilities, you will manage and lead a maintenance team who respond efficiently to maintenance matters and requests.
  • You will have responsibility for the reactive and planned maintenance schedule, and report projects on our systems.
  • You will manage external contractors and oversee work which is delivered on our operational services.
  • You will contribute towards our new service mobilisation plans, ensuring that any new services and facilities have the appropriate health and safety measures in place.
  • You will ensure that we are compliant in relation to Health and Safety regulations, specifically in relation to accidents within the workplace and the welfare of our employees.
  • You will oversee the Health and Safety of our Head Office, ensuring risk assessment processes are robust and in place for all office-based employees.
  • You will carry out audits, inspections, and surveys to ensure work is on track and to a high standard of quality.
  • You will oversee fire checks and DSE assessments for each service.
  • You will liaise with key business stakeholders to ensure that our Safety, Health, and Environment Strategy is up to date.
  • You will liaise with internal stakeholders in relation to delivering Health and Safety training and ensuring that training is up to date.

Essential qualities that we look for, 

  • IOSH General Certificate desirable
  • Membership of IOSH
  • Experience in contract management from a construction / trades background.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the delivery of training to a wide audience.
  • Highly organised, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good negotiation, collaboration, and numeracy skills.
  • Good time management skills and motivated by hitting deadlines.
  • A full, valid, UK Driving licence and access to a vehicle.

What we offer you

  • Your salary is £35,000 to £38,000 per annum, depending upon experience.
  • Your hours of work are, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with a degree of flexibility required.
  • Your holiday entitlement is 33 days per annum,
