Outdoor Instructor

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced outdoor instructor who wants to make a real difference to children's lives? Do you want the opportunity to introduce children to outdoor activities that provide experiences that meet their therapeutic and educational needs? You will truly be able to make a difference in this role, and have the ability to utilise your own qualifications and experience to change the lives of children who have experienced trauma and adversity.

We have created an exciting opportunity to grow the strength and capacity of our Outdoor Instruction Team and have introduced 2 new positions for Outdoor Instructors to join our services, supporting our children and their teams to participate in outdoor activities.  We are scoping out the employment proposition for this role and anticipate a flexible working arrangement of up to 40 hours per week across 7 days.  If you are looking for a 9-5 role this won't be the position for you, as you need to be willing to work your hours flexibly and sometimes in condensed periods to support exciting expedition work.  Part-time and flexible contracts will also be available.

Main Responsibility

We are looking for creative outdoor instructors to provide a varied range of inspiring and exciting outdoor opportunities based in the Northern Lake District, working across Cumbria. No two days are the same, and our programme is planned-around the needs of each child. This means you could be leading mountain biking, ghyll scrambling, or spending a day on the lake, or for our more adventurous children, you could be planning and delivering multi-day expeditions

The Ideal Candidate

You will be experienced as an Outdoor Instructor, well versed in taking children out and introducing them to new activities.  Many of our children are new to outdoor activities, and so you will need to be passionate, calm and have a resilient and professional approach.  We are looking for instructors who have already achieved their outdoor qualifications in a myriad of different fields.

Due to the nature of the role, you will need a full UK driving license and access to a car for your own commute to different sites.  If you have experience and qualifications in leading mountain biking, paddle sports, climbing and walking and you like making a difference and want to use your qualifications to their fullest, this could be the role for you, so please get in touch and apply today.

All roles will be subject to a successful disclosure at an appropriate level from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Access NI or Disclosure Scotland as we follow safer recruitment processes. We are an equal opportunities employer.

Just imagine the lives we can turn around together. A Wilderness Way – specialist care that creates a path to a better tomorrow.
