Job Introduction

We have a new opportunity for a Therapist to join our professional multi-disciplinary team based in our Head Office just outside Penrith. This role is ideally suited to someone who holds a qualification in counselling, Level 4 or above. 
Ideally, you will have experience providing therapeutic support to children with emotional or behavioural difficulties and with complex, sometimes undiagnosed, conditions.    
A Wilderness Way provides a unique approach to residential care, health, and education for children who have experienced adverse childhood trauma. We form a specialist therapeutic team around our children to ensure that they can learn, grow, and flourish. The role of Therapist plays a vital role in the therapeutic team. 

Your role and responsibilities as Therapist,
  • You will meet with children individually to provide interventions to meet their individual assessment needs
  • Working with our Head of Clinical and Therapy and multi-disciplinary team, you will provide therapeutic support to children and produce psychometric reports
  • You will share your observations to help our teams understand behaviours and tailor strategies to create a personalised approach to each child’s care. 
  • You will utilise our outdoor space and facilities, where possible, to engage and inspire our children. 
  • You will deliver Trauma Informed Practice and Attachment training for the wider organisation 
  • You will be based at Head Office, just outside Penrith. However, you will travel throughout Cumbria to visit our children and care teams regularly. 
What we offer you,
  • Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum, depending upon experience and qualifications
  • Hours of Work: You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, 
  • Annual Leave: You will receive 33 days per annum, our holiday year runs from March to February.

Key qualities that we look for, 
  • Substantial experience of working directly with children in a psychology or counselling capacity
  • You will hold a UKCP/BACP registration and a qualification in counselling, level 4 or above
  • You will have a working knowledge of trauma and attachment theories, with the ability to draw on your knowledge to support the practice of our teams
  • You will have an excellent understanding of legislation and regulations surrounding residential child care and safe guarding children
  • The ability to understand the individual needs of each child
  • Ability to work on your own and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient skills in IT and record keeping
  • A full, valid, UK driving licence and access to your own transport
